Pechuga's Story

When a rescue generates over $9,600 in pledges and more in direct donations and sponsorships yet denies the dog even minimal care - in the end, opts to euthanize without knowing the dog's true condition . . .

Pechuga was a dog that Humans and Animals United “rescued” from Miami Dade Animal Services (MDAS) in October 2024. Placed with a woman who already had multiple dogs including several from this rescue, a known history of impounded dogs and a history of druge offenses, Pechuga really didn’t stand much of a chance.

The woman, despite her history, was in over her head but felt obligated to continue to take dogs that HAAU would guilt her into fostering. As with the other dogs, the rescue told her that Pechuga would die if she didn’t take him in, despite the literal thousands of offers they received from people across their web of pages who wanted desperately to help. Why work too hard when you have a “go-to” person you can easily manipualte and exploit by dumping dog after dog with?

Pechuga was yet another dog that was heavily promoted and marketed by HAAU which they claimed needed weeks of constant vet care due to pneumonia, had several “masses” removed and a procedure to correct her cherry eye.  As with the others, the rescue received many thousands in pledges, direct donations and sponsorships for Pechuga’s care – care she never received.

In light of the massive amount of lies we’ve uncovered that were told by this rescue, we find their claims about Pechuga’s vet care dubious at best. After consulting with a licensed veterinarian and researching this ourselves, it is highly unlikely that Pechuga needed the “weeks” of intensive veterinarian care they claimed. In more serious cases of pneumonia, dogs may need hospitalization for several days for IV antibiotics, fluids, oxygen, and monitoring – not “weeks”, but “weeks” sounds better so Rosa Fond just went with it to better justify her pleas for donations.

Cherry eye surgery is also very common and the average cost for this procedure in the state of Florida is $665. Since this rescue NEVER posts vet bills for their dogs, no one will ever know the true amount that was spent on Pechuga, however, one thing’s for sure – this rescue received over $8,900 in PLEDGES ALONE for Pechuga and even MORE in direct donations and sponsorships from thousands of people across their massive network of profiles and fake pages on social media.

Watch this video made by Humans and Animals United. This is the type of emotional manipulation this “rescue” engages in for the sole purpose of tugging at people’s pursestrings. You would think any rescue that put up a video like this MUST really love the dogs they rescue and go to great lengths to provide the best care possible, wouldn’t you?

These are the types of videos that allow this “rescue” to generate thousands for every dog they pull and the sicker and sadder looking the better. It’s rescue’s dirty little secret that the “medical” dogs make the most money.

The rescue claimed in the post above that Pechuga was also heartworm positive and that “her treatment has started”. Whether or not Pechuga ever started treatement is unknown, however, what is known is that Pechuga never received any treatment for her heartworms while in the care of the woman she was dumped with – none. Since the rescue doesn’t provide the slightest transparency and never posts vet bills or even estimates, there is no way to know the extent of Pechuga’s true condition, what prior vet care she actually received and at what cost. Every dog is just a cash grab for this rescue and their objective is to take in as much as possible, amounts that far exceed the true cost of care for every dog.

This woman kept Pechuga for six months during which time she was never authorized to take her to the vet for any follow up care nor was Pechuga on any type of medication. In fact, she never received heartworm preventative or flea and tick medication for her or any of the dogs the rescue would dump on her.

One day she noticed that Pechuga’s mammary glands were hard, swollen and painful so she once again contacted Barbara “Queenbee” about taking her in to the vet. Barbara, as typical, refused to allow her to take her to the vet for care, but instead told her to just “find the cheapest vet and put her down”. No diagnostics, no examination – just end her life because it’s the easiest and least costly option.

Pechuga could have very easily had mastitis which is a very treatable condition – requiring antibiotics and supportive care, however, we’ll never know at this point. Pechuga’s life was ended after Humans and Animals United took in many thousands for her from kind hearted people who thought their money would be going towards Pechuga’s care. Instead, it went into the pockets of Rosa and Anthony Fond and Pechuga’s life was extinguished without any hesitation.

Here is a video of Pechuga narrated by none other than Rosa Fond herself. Rosa took in more money for Pechuga than many rescues receive in several months and in the end, Rosa denied Pechuga ANY veterinarian care and callously directed her to be euthanized without so much as an examination to rule out mastitis. Think of that when you hear her words and see poor Pechuga. This  has been done to many other dogs and will continue as long as people still support her and her money making enterprise disguised as a “rescue”.

RIP Pechuga. You had so many people who cared enough about you to donate towards your care – care you were sadly denied by a rescue who puts profits above the dogs they claim to care so much about.
