Ben's Story

Placing profits before dogs - when a rescue routinely fails the dogs they "rescue" after making $10K+ for each one - when is enough ENOUGH?

Before HAAU

After HAAU

What you’re about to read is sadly very common place with Humans and Animals United. These are the stories they don’t want you to know about so they work overtime to bully all involved into silence. How this rescue failed Ben and what they subsequently did to the dog trainer involved is criminal and morally reprehensible, as you will soon see. What became of Ben may never be truly known.

Ben is a dog that HAAU pulled from Miami Dade Animal Services along with another dog “Cash” in June of 2021. Ben had in upwards of $10,000 in pledges with many offers to sponsor any necessary vet care, boarding or transportation costs. With high pledges, no expenses and direct donations made to this rescue, most if not all of what this rescue took in for Ben was pure profit, the same for Cash.

Ben was immediately placed in a home and for reasons unknown but typical with this rescue, this placement lasted all of 24 hours. This home is the one they posted about in their big “update” on Ben, seen in the video below. By initial appearances, this adopter looked great and HAAU sure wanted to show this off to the world. Nice house, big yard– it looked like Ben hit the jackpot and was going to have an amazing life courtesy of HAAU. This video shows Ben taking it all in and running around like a happy dog.

This 24 hour placement that HAAU touted as an “update” that the rescue shows off with the caption that Ben is “living the life he deserves” was sadly short lived.

This home, for reasons unknown, did not work out and Ben was transported to a different home just 24 hours later. Reportedly, the family that Ben was placed with next has adopted an alarming amount of dogs from HAAU who are said to live out their lives essentially being “warehoused” – crated and rotated 24/7 for the duration of their lives. Not exactly the happy life this rescue wants everyone to believe their rescues all experience. It is unclear how long this family had Ben, however, at one point he ended up being placed in a third home with a man who abused Ben and was a drug addict. This man eventually died from a crack induced heart attack. How could Rosa Fond be completely unaware of this Veteran’s mental health and substance abuse issues? How could she let him adopt Ben after bouncing him around from place to place?

This was posted by HAAU who really jumped the gun on their big, happy announcement of Ben’s adoption.

The rescue gives themselves a big pat on the back when they boldly state “Today we can say that our job was well done!” and that “Ben, we will always watch over you!”.  So why did they place Ben with a Veteran who had a known history of drug abuse, one who sadly died of a crack induced heart attack?

After Ben’s adopter died, The dog trainer we will call “Jack” that previously worked with Ben, for the third time went running to get him and what he found was truly heartbreaking.

This is the condition Ben was in when Jack went to get him. Stabbed, emaciated and clearly NOT a "job well done" as Rosa Fond bragged about on her adoption announcement which was the final update for Ben.

It was at this point that Jack decided to end his association with Rosa Fond and her rescue Humans and Animals United. He had seen enough over time. This time, Rosa Fond could not explain away everything,  there were simply no more plausible excuses. Jack kept Ben for a while until the rescue sent Barbara Queenbee AKA Barbara Smith, to pick Ben up to take him “Out of state”.

Many believe “Out of state” is code for “euthanize”.

Jack spoke up about his experiences with Humans and Animals United and out of sheer frustration posted about his ordeal and the treatment of not just Ben, but other dogs he was tasked with rehabilitating for Rosa Fond and company. What followed was Rosa Fond doing what she is known to do and that is unleashing her goons to create as much harm to Jack as possible while attempting to discredit him so others wouldn’t believe his claims. Her head goon these days is Jonathan Colon Garcia and he viciously attacks anyone who dare speak up about Rosa Fond and her illicit rescue.

From Jack:

After receiving threats of harm and being threatened by Rosa and her thugs to ruin Jack and the training business he spent years building, he felt that it was in his and his family’s best interest to move away. To see how Rosa Fond threatens harm to others, read here.

After Rosa Fond posted about Ben being adopted, no further updates were made.

No mention of Ben’s adopter abusing him, of being a drug addict and of dying of a crack induced heart attack and certainly no mention of Ben being picked up by Jack, tied to a tree emaciated and having been stabbed.

These are the horror stories that are far too common with this rescue who fail to do proper home checks, require applications, fail to do background checks and essentially dumps their dogs on anyone they can who is willing to look past the fact that no real care is provided by this rescue, even after they have made thousands off of the dog.

No one knows where Ben is today and if he is even alive. In the absence of any legitimate updates about their dogs, certainly not with Ben, it is not a stretch to believe that Ben is no longer living. We would love to know if he is, however, any updates this rescue could provide at this point would be dubious at best and would need to be time and date stamped in order to be believed.
