Lily's Story
Lily's story illustrates how HAAU routinely places dogs in harm's way and continues to exploit them repeatedly as they bring in big donations
This story perfectly illustrates the deceptive practices Humans and Animals United engages in regularly. It shows how easily they can spin a story that is very far removed from the truth, deceiving their followers and donors. It is a prime example of the way this rescue owner operates and it should alarm anyone who reads it.
Lily was formally knowns as “Summer” and was “rescued” by HAAU in 2021 and adopted to a “great family” quickly. Of course, Humans and Animals United (Rosa Fond) took full advantage of Summer’s sad circumstances of having been abandoned and promoted her heavily across her web of fake networking pages. It is unclear how much money was generated by concerned donors as Rosa Fond has scrubbed most of her pages of any mention of Summer’s initial rescue and the donations they received, however, we’ve yet to see a dog this rescue has “saved” generate less than $8K, with most generating over $10K-$12K.
Based on the other dogs we’ve reported on that met terrible fates, it’s not a stretch to assume that Summer was given to this “great family” without any due diligence or background checks. This “wonderful family” who HAAU posted a glowing update about, let Summer end up shot in a dumpster, having narrowly avoided certain death.
In 2023, three years after Summer was adopted out, she was found in a dumpster in Davie, Florida area after having been grazed in the neck with what was later determined to be BB bullets. This was tragic yet could have been far worse for Summer, who was renamed to “Lily” by her “wonderful adopters”. We’ll refer to her as Lily going forward.
What followed is below the pale – even for this rescue. The spin Rosa Fond put on this tragic event is proof that she views the dogs she “rescues” as nothing more than money making opportunities. Using incredibly deceptive and manipulative tactics, Rosa began spinning this sad story to her advantage and the money started pouring in for the second time in a row.
Rosa must not have thought anyone would be able to connect the dots and realize that it was HER rescue, Humans and Animals United, that “rescued” Lily FKA Summer three years prior but she was wrong about that. At first and in typical Rosa Fond fashion, she began spinning one of her famous “stories” – making NO MENTION of the fact that Lily was actually “Summer” and that Rosa had”rescued” her originally after collection thousands upon thousands in donations.
Rosa immediately started pushing for donations in her attempt to profit from this terrible event. She falsely claimed that she rushed Lily to the vet when in fact, Lily had been taken to the vet by the police officer who was called to the scene. She was already at the vet when Rosa was contacted. This casual embellishment of the facts is typical Rosa Fond.
To attempt to profit a second time off of Lily while glossing over the fact that her rescue failed Lily in the first place, is next level deception. No one can flip the script quite like Rosa Fond can. She made sure she could profit from this tragedy any way she could, including this fundraiser on Cuddly.
After the initial news stories about Lily, the media began reporting that Lily had been traced back to Humans and Animals United. Many concerned advocates sounded off about this, knowing that Lily was originally adopted out by HAAU as “Summer”. Rosa Fond attempted to get ahead of things by posting a VERY untrue account of the circumstances in which she found herself in. Her claims of not mentioning the fact that her rescue placed Lily with the monsters that almost killed her because there was an “active investigation” simply does not hold water.
One of our investigators fact checked the above statements made by Rosa Fond ten ways to Sunday, even doing a FOIA request for records. The news outlets did not jeopardize the investigation simply by stating that Lily was traced back to Rosa’s rescue. This information simply was not “pertinent” to Lily’s case. The advocates who spoke up about this were blasted by Rosa Fond, who in typical fashion accused them of bullying and twisting the story. It is believed that Rosa was incredibly upset that her little secret was divulged, but that didn’t stop her from continuing to profit off of Lily’s tragedy.
There are many questions that have never been answered, and probably never will be. The first is this – Why hasn’t Rosa ever posted a single update about the investigation and whether or not the person who was responsible for harming Lily was ever found? Rosa stated in her post above that she was just “waiting for the detectives to give her the greenlight to be able to tell her story”. It’s been over two years and the last update ever provided by this rescue about Lily was in July of 2023 when Lily had been placed in a new home somewhere “up north”.
Two years since this horrific event, no one knows where Lily is today or if she is even alive. Because Lily needed to be an only dog, many fear that Lily is no longer alive, being ordered euthanized like many of thier dogs are. Rosa Fond has done her best to escape responsibility for failing this dog, like so many other dogs her rescue has set up to fail before.
After being taken across country to “Up North”, We can only hope that Lily is still alive and doing well, but there are grave concerns by many, afraid that may not be the case. As one of their former trainers wrote:
