This story should scare everyone reading this. It shows how Rosa Fond and her rescue place profits before safety and how willing she is to jeopardize the life of an innocent dog and the lives of other dogs and humans – all in the name of profits.
In January of 2021, Miami Dade Animal Services listed a dog named “Raptor” which quickly became Rosa Fond’s target dog. She set out to generate as much money as possible by posting Raptor on all of her usual pages and groups – the same operating procedure as with all dogs she “rescues”.
The comments quickly started coming in with offers to foster/adopt Raptor and of course, the pledges started to mount.
Raptor was listed by the shelter as having some “behavior issues” and was deemed “aggressive”. This meant that he could not be adopted out to the public and needed to be pulled by a licensed rescue. In comes Rosa Fond who is known to prefer these types of dogs because they generate the most amount of money from people who desperately want to see a happy ending for the dog.
You would think that any rescue wanting to save a dog like Raptor, fully aware of the fact that he had been deemed aggressive with behavior issues by the shelter, would put a plan together for his care and rehabilitation/training prior to pulling him, right?
Well not Rosa Fond.
A woman who was a resident of Georgia, saw one of Rosa’s many posts urging people to pledge/foster/adopt. She, like many of the people who saw this rescue’s posts, felt compelled to help and reached out to Rosa about fostering Raptor.
Ordinarily this would be a good thing, however, the woman who offered to foster who we will refer to as “Alex” was not exactly the ideal candidate to foster Raptor. At the time, Alex was fostering a dog for a different rescue and also worked as a Rover sitter where she typically had 6-12 small to medium sized dogs in her very small home at any given time. Later it was revealed that Alex operated a very reckless dog sitting operation where dogs routinely escaped and serious dog fights broke out on a regular basis. In addition to this, Alex had a documented history of stealing dogs from rescues and later went on to attempt to steal two dogs from a woman she stalked and harassed for years.
When the woman who Alex was fostering a dog for learned of her plans to drive to Miami to pick up Raptor and take him into her home she was gravely concerned about the safety of hers and Alex’s Rover dogs. These concerns were expressed to Rosa Fond, commander in cheif at Humans and Animals United.
Amazingly, after hearing this woman’s concerns for the safety of not only the other dogs in the house but for Raptor as well, Rosa Fond choose to ignore her and continued to encourage the foster to drive from Atlanta to Miami to pick up Raptor and keep him in her tiny home.
This very tragic situation begs a multitude of questions and raises serious concerns about the judgement that Rosa Fond exercises in regards to the safety of the dogs she “rescues” and the safety of those that volunteer to help. This is what happens when the lure of easy money clouds someone’s judgement.
We know the following about this tragic story:
Rosa Fond did no homecheck on Alex prior to agreeing to let her go get Raptor, nor did Alex complete a foster application or provide references.
Rosa Fond had no plan for Raptor’s rehabilitation – no plans were ever made or discussed to provide training for Raptor in a safe, controlled environment.
Rosa was contacted by the rescue who Alex was fostering a dog for and presented with enough information to establish the fact that Alex was not the appropriate choice of foster for a dog like Raptor. She had no dog training or dog behavioral skills and bringing a dog like Raptor into her home would have endangered the life of Alex and the lives of all the other dogs, including Raptor.
Despite all of this, Rosa Fond chose to ignore everything and forge ahead with her plans to allow Alex to get Raptor. She simply did not care.
This is the perfect example of how Humans and Animals United pulls dogs after amassing thousands in pledges/donations and places them with virtually anyone willing to take them in regardless of thier abilities or qualifications. They are endangering the lives of dogs like Raptor and we believe that had Raptor been rescued and placed with Alex something tragic would have happened. We also believe that he likely would have been euthanized by Rosa Fond at some point as most of the aggressive and behavioral dogs she has pulled have never been accounted for – to this day.
RIP Raptor. You would have been set up to fail by this rescue, we are sorry another rescue more capable of helping you wasn’t able to.
